Let It Go!

God’s word tells me to forget the former things; do not dwell on the past (Isaiah 43:18, NIV). It is a constant battle because I know me. And I know that God knows me. Yet, He loves me anyway.

I spend a lot of time reflecting on the choices I’ve made in my life and how they have shaped me and influenced my path.  While it’s fun to look back and tell stories (my kids LOVE to hear about the way we grew up), I spend too much time focusing on what I got wrong and what I could have done differently.  I can’t go back and change any of it.  So, why do I dwell on it?  Why do I let this lie convince me that I am held captive by past sins?  Even when I know that I am forgiven?  God’s word tells me to forget the former things; do not dwell on the past (Isaiah 43:18, NIV).  It is a constant battle because I know me.  And I know that God knows me.  Yet, He loves me anyway.  And while I am so very thankful, it is sometimes hard to believe someone could love me so completely, so unconditionally.  Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust” (Psalms 91:1-2, NIV).

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for not dwelling on our past.  Thank You for being our refuge and our fortress.  Please help us to forgive ourselves, let go of our past, and look ahead to our future with You as the Head of our lives.  We love You.  We trust You.  In Jesus name, Amen.
