Defeat. It seems to beat me down at every turn at times. Even as I sing, “Victory is mine”, I am dealt blow after blow. But as I read God’s word, I begin to understand that my struggles are not just what I can see with my eyes. Ephesians 6:12 says, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” There is a very real battle taking place. It is the battle for our very souls. It is whether we will accept the salvation Christ offers or reject it. For those of us who put our faith in Jesus, we know our eternity is with Him forever. “And this is what he promised us—eternal life” (1 John 2:25). So, even as we go through what feels like defeat after defeat here on Earth, we can rest in knowing “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14). I am not defeated, and neither are you. Read Romans 8:35-39. Really sit and meditate on it and read it again. “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: ‘For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Let this word into your heart. Believe it and cling to it with all your might.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that we are not defeated! Thank You that NOTHING can separate us from Your love! Please help us see ourselves the way You see us. Please help us see You in everyone we meet. Please give us wisdom and patience to be still and let You fight for us. We love You. We trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
