Focus – Worship God

God created us to worship Him and only Him. “…all things have been created through him and for him” (Colossians 1:16). How do we worship only God in a world that is increasingly focused only on satisfying oneself? We go against that narrative.

I find myself feeling down more than I care to admit.  However, I have begun to notice that when I feel this way I am focusing on myself and making me (or other interests) the ruler of my life, rather than God.  Exodus 20:5 tells us “…I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God…”  God created us to worship Him and only Him.  “…all things have been created through him and for him” (Colossians 1:16).  How do we worship only God in a world that is increasingly focused only on satisfying oneself?  We go against that narrative.  We give without making any public announcements.  We visit with, or make calls to, people who are alone.  We pray for and encourage others.  We get the focus off of ourselves and serve someone else.  In Matthew 25:40 Jesus says, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”   It is easy to get caught up in the frenzy of ‘what’s in it for me?’.  However, we are commanded to be different.  For us as believers, this world is not our home.  We must cling to that truth and be mindful of Romans 12:2 each and everyday, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Dear God,

Thank You for the gift of eternal life.  Please help us take the focus off of ourselves and serve others in worship of You.  We love You.  We trust You.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
