I have learned that what other people think about me is none of my business. Foolishly, I have spent a good amount of time trying to figure out why people do (or don’t do) certain things in relation to what I feel they think about me. The reality is, it may have everything to do with how they think about me or it may have nothing at all to do with how they think about me. I can keep spinning my wheels about it or I can go to God’s word and know for sure what He says about me. Here are a few of God’s truths:
- I am a new creation in Christ, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
- I am loved as a child of God, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him” (1 John 3:1).
- God’s Holy Spirit lives in me, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” (1 Corinthians 3:16).
Let us focus on who God says we are. Let us begin to see ourselves as God sees us, fully redeemed by the blood of Jesus. Let us begin to see every person we meet as someone made in the image of God and honor them above ourselves. “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalms 139:14).
Dear God,
Thank You for Your truths of who we are and what we mean to You. Please help us remember that we will never meet a person who is not made in Your image. Help us to serve others humbly and honor others above ourselves. We love You. We trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
