Keep the Faith

We like to say having faith is hard. At least, I know this is true for me. But when I think about it, I’m believing (having faith) that certain things will happen every day. The truth is that I, like all of you, exercise faith in worldly things all the time.

Have faith in God,” Jesus answered.  “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.  Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours,” (Mark 11:22-24).

We like to say having faith is hard.  At least, I know this is true for me.  But when I think about it, I’m believing (having faith) that certain things will happen every day.  Some examples are that I have faith my car will start, my phone charge will last, or that my Google Meet conference will go on as planned with no technology issues.  The truth is that I, like all of you, exercise faith in worldly things all the time.  Even knowing that these things fail, we are willing to put our faith in them because we can see them and we’re familiar with them.  That familiarity gives us some level of comfort.  I believe one of the hard parts about putting our faith in God is that He is unseen.  “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see,” (Hebrews 11:1).  So, how do we get past the fact that we can’t see Him?  We must study His word.  We must pursue a personal relationship with Him.  As you study and draw near to God, here are some questions to continually consider as you grow:

  • Am I consistently seeking God first?
  • Am I consistently putting my faith in God for all things?
  • Am I consistently believing that what I ask God for will be done?

Heavenly Father,

Thank You that we are able to come to You in prayer.  Please forgive us for putting anything above You.  Keep us humble and mindful that You are the God of our lives.  Give us a mind and heart to seek You first.  Build up our faith in You for all things.  We love You.  We trust You.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
