Dissatisfaction often creeps into the way I feel about my life or some aspect of it. I need to exercise more. I need to take another class. I need to set a better example for my kids. There is always something more that I need to do. The issue here is that sometimes I lose sight of my need for God, which is what fuels the dissatisfaction. Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Right there in His word, it says that God will meet ALL of my needs. So, I should not be so caught up in where or how my needs will be supplied because of who the supplier is. So then, where should I focus my attention? “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness” (Matthew 6:33) and “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers” (Galatians 6:10) are good places to start.
We must reject the lie that we have to compete against each other, and instead embrace the truth that we must uplift each other – even when it’s hard. I believe focusing on this truth is where we will find lasting joy. “Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Romans 12:16-18).
Dear God,
Thank You for supplying all of our needs. Please help us to reject the lie that keeps us dissatisfied and tells us we have to compete with each other. Fill our hearts and minds with the truth that You are all that we need. Help us to live in harmony with each other, to be humble, to honor others above ourselves, to never repay evil for evil, to do what is right, and to live at peace with everyone. We love You. We trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
