I have set many goals for myself along the way in life, as I’m sure you have. Some of them I have achieved and some of them I continue to work toward. I think it’s good to have goals and to give God the glory when He blesses us to reach them. Sometimes, though, it seems like everyone around us is succeeding left and right, but we are just not making our mark. We see them scheming, plotting, and backstabbing to get ahead and we rail at the unfairness of it all. I am usually mid-rant when I recall, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes” (Psalms 37:7). God sees everything. He can avenge and rectify a situation far better than anything we could even begin to imagine. ‘Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord’ (Romans 12:19). Isaiah 55:9 tells us, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
So, how do we heed God’s word to be still and wait patiently for Him?
- We practice humility.
- We serve and put others first.
- We pray without ceasing.
How do we keep from worrying about people who seem to succeed through wicked schemes?
- We study God’s word.
- We focus on who we are in Christ.
- We pray without ceasing.
Dear God,
Thank You that we can come to You in prayer. Help us to be confident of who we are in You and to patiently wait on You. Help us to serve others and not to get caught up in any wicked schemes. We love You. We trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
