Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control (Proverbs 25:28). There have been times when I’ve thrown caution to the wind and indulged in activities and behaviors that I know are displeasing to God and are downright sinful. Not that I’m anywhere near sin-free, but the more I read God’s word, pray, and get closer to Him, the more I recognize my own sin. The more I recognize it, the more I’m displeased with it, which moves me to repent more quickly. Still, God only knows how much of my sin I’m still missing and failing to repent for. And yes, I still have those moments when I lack self-control and do or say something that I shouldn’t. I am so very thankful for God’s grace and mercy instead of the justice that I deserve. I am so very thankful that for the believer, God’s spirit lives in us. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23).
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your Holy Spirit who lives in us. Thank You for grace and mercy instead of the justice we deserve. Please give us wisdom and self-control in all things. We love You. We trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
