No Worries

I am a worrier. Yes, you read that correctly. Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? (Matthew 6:27). Of course not. Still, I dream up all kinds of scenarios in my head of what could go wrong.

I am a worrier.  Yes, you read that correctly.  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? (Matthew 6:27).  Of course not.  Still, I dream up all kinds of scenarios in my head of what could go wrong, most of which never happen.  I get so outdone with myself when I realize that, yet again, I have gone down this path of ‘what if’ rather than calling on The One who holds all power in His hands.  But God, in His infinite grace, gently reminds me of Philippians 4:6-7, Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

We all have things that make us worry or give us pause.  God wants us to trust Him with all of those things.  The people and the things that we care about, God cares about too.  After all, He blessed us with them.  1 Peter 5:7 says, Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.  Every care, every burden, every worry – we can lay it all at the feet of Jesus and trust that He will take care of it, in His way, in His time.  So, instead of worrying, let us seek to become warriors who Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms  (Ephesians 6:11-12).

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for loving us, even when we get it wrong.  Thank You that we can cast our cares on You.  We lay our burdens at Your feet.  Let Your will be done.  We love You.  We trust You.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
