Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled (Matthew 5:6). So many times, we think we have moral authority in an area and we call others out for their sins. But, do we hunger and thirst for righteousness in order to be filled so that we may show grace and speak truth into the lives of those around us? I know that I am guilty of what Jesus taught in Matthew 7:4, often saying to others ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in my own eye. Rather than focus on what is wrong with each other, let us focus on loving and serving each other. A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another (John 13:34). Rather than tearing each other down, let us focus on building each other up. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen (Ephesians 4:29).
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your word to guide us on our way. Please give us wisdom to seek You first in all things. Help us to love and serve each other as You command. Help us to build each other up. We love You. We trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
