Our lives are our testimony. It’s not so much that we get everything right, but that when we do fall short, we remember 1 John 1:9, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. IF. IF we confess our sins. The bible tells us over and over that God is faithful. He is just. He is merciful. He is forgiving. IF we confess our sins. Why, then, are we still grappling with so much sin in our lives and all around us?
Not one of us is perfect. The first step is admitting it. The second step is to stop buying into the lie and pretending that we are. God already knows it all. I think the hardest part is admitting to ourselves that we knowingly and willfully sin against God. Confronting that reality makes us admit that we know what we are doing and, at the time, it is more important to us than our relationship with God. I know that sounds harsh, and I’m guilty as charged, too. The good news is that when we acknowledge our sin before God, He will forgive us. And, I am convinced the more times God forgives us, the more we come to recognize our own sin, and the more disgusted we become with our own sin. That is when the real change happens.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that we can confess our sins to You and that You will forgive us. Please help us keep You first in all things. We love You. We trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
