Be the Example

I often think about the example I’m setting, even in my home, and I must admit, I cringe. If I can’t get it right at home, how will I ever get it right out in the world?! I can do all this through Him who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13). I don’t have to stay bound by frustration, anger, and self-righteousness…and neither do you.

Think about a person you know who does not know or believe in God.  Do you think this person would be moved by someone who puts on an air of perfection at all times, never admitting any wrongs?  Or, do you think they’d be moved by someone who was humble, admitted when they were wrong, and asked for forgiveness?  Going to church on Sundays is wonderful, but the way we live our lives every day interacting with others is how we begin to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19).  Consider for a moment that our lives, the example we set, could model the love of Christ to them.

I often think about the example I’m setting, even in my home, and I must admit, I cringe.  When I am frustrated with my teenagers, modeling the love of Christ is not foremost in my mind.  When I speak to my husband with self-righteous indignation, I offer little grace.   If I can’t get it right at home, how will I ever get it right out in the world?!  I can do all this through Him who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13).  I don’t have to stay bound by frustration, anger, and self-righteousness…and neither do you.  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17).

We are new in Christ and we should live like it.  We are going to mess up.  But Christ paid for our sins already so that we may be reconciled to our Father in Heaven.  Tell somebody.  “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all nations, (Luke 24: 46-47).

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the sacrifice of Christ for our sins.  Please help us live our lives to give You glory and point others to You.  We love You.  We trust You.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
