For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7). The Spirit God gave us dwells in each of us as believers. Still, fear creeps in and makes us think we lack what God has already provided: love, power, and self-discipline. So often we look for those things anywhere else, except for the Spirit of God in us. I am indeed guilty of looking for worldly approval and satisfaction, even now. Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ (Galatians 1:10). Anytime we try to fill our lives, seek approval, or find satisfaction outside of God, we will fall short. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:33).
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your Spirit who lives in us. Please help us seek You first in all things and look only to You for approval and satisfaction. We love You. We trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
