Reflect/Renew

When God feels far away, we have a choice to make. We can choose to drift away or we can dig into His word, pray, and seek Him all the more.

It seems the words reflection and renewal are at the forefront of many of our minds as we begin a fresh new year.  I cannot speak for you, but for me, 2020 was quite the year.  My family went through personal health issues, job changes, virtual schooling, and the list goes on.  At times, it felt like I couldn’t get over one thing before something else knocked me back.  There were many days that I cried out to God, and other days that I couldn’t even find the words to pray.  For this reason, I am thankful that Romans 8:26 tells me that, ‘In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans’.

Even when He feels far away, we can cling to the truth because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).  When God feels far away, we have a choice to make.  We can choose to drift away or we can dig into His word, pray, and seek Him all the more.  So often, we expect to see great miracles.  We want to be amazed and awed.  I’m guilty, too.  But just consider the fact that we exist.  Each and every one of us, uniquely formed – no two exactly the same.  It is a miracle of life that we take for granted every day.  We can trust God’s promises are true, that He is always at work in our lives, and that it is always for our good.  ‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit’ (Romans 15:13).

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the blessing of a New Year.  Thank You for Your Holy Spirit who lives in us and intercedes for us when we don’t know how or what to pray.  We ask for Your wisdom and guidance in all things as we begin this year.  We love You.  We trust You.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
